Our story began with a simple decision: to be open to what life might bring.
After a conversation with my mom, I decided to remain open to meeting someone new, without trying to force the outcome. Not long after, I met him.
From our very first date, there was something easy about being together. We met for lunch, spent some time exploring a museum, and went our separate ways that day without any grand romantic moment. Yet somehow, we both left wanting to see each other again.
As the weekends passed and the miles between us became less important, so did the question of where this might lead. We simply enjoyed being together. There was a sense of comfort from the beginning, a feeling that we could be ourselves, laugh together, and build something genuine.
Before long, we began choosing each other with intention. We met family, made plans, and started building a life that felt less like a new chapter and more like a natural continuation of what had already begun.
People often say, “When you know, you know.” For years, we wondered what that really meant.
Then, somehow, we understood.
For the first time, the idea of spending a lifetime with someone did not feel frightening or uncertain. It did not feel like a distant decision or something to be figured out someday. It simply felt right, like the natural next step in a relationship that already felt like home.
And so, here we are. Grateful for the unexpected beginning, for the wisdom that encouraged us to remain open to it, and most of all, for finding each other.
Looking back, I sometimes wonder how much of this story was quietly guided by the people who knew us best. Perhaps some of the best parts of our lives begin with a little wisdom, a little courage, and simply being willing to say yes.
